The Challenge
Centra Health is a regional nonprofit healthcare system based in Lynchburg VA. With more than 6,400 employees and a medical staff of nearly 600 persons, it provides health care to over 380,000 persons each year at 64 locations throughout central and southern Virginia.
Faced with weak in-building cellular reception at several of their facilities, many of their staff and patients experienced dropped or choppy calls while indoors. This not only created a very negative experience at their facilities for patients and their families, it also prevented doctors from receiving timely phone calls from their medical teams or private practices.
Centra Health turned to JDTECK for a robust DAS solution that would stand the test of time. These facilities ranged in size from 2,000 SQFT to well over 100,000 SQFT. Due to the energy efficient materials used in construction, the natural signal bleed from the neighboring cell towers could not penetrate the buildings, so in-building cell phone coverage was extremely weak.

Our Approach
JDTECK first obtained the floor plans of all the facilities requiring a DAS solution. These were in the small to medium size range. Centra Health took advantage of JDTECK’s engineering services to produce easy to read and highly intuitive DAS wiring diagrams for these small DIY sites. With our world-class remote technical guidance as well as the right tools, they were able to bring their in-house IT team up to speed on how to properly deploy a small DAS solution themselves. This greatly benefited this non-profit health group by saving them money on labor on these small installations they were capable of handling themselves. A major contributing factor to the success of these self-installed deployments had to do with the high-quality products supplied by JDTECK.
For the larger facilities requiring a higher level of technical skill and oversight, JDTECK was able to provide Centra Health with the professional, personalized and hassle-free service of a single vendor being able to deploy turn-key DAS solutions that maintains quality and performance over multiple sites across the state.
The Result
The result was seamless in-building cell phone reception for all Wireless Service Providers at their facilities (4-5 Bars). A mutually beneficial partnership between a customer and manufacturer that truly cares about the quality of service it provides and the quality of the solutions it provides.
